ARPA

AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN ACT

The American Rescue Plan Act is a government-funded ARPA grant that President Joe Biden signed. Part of the Act is that funds would be distributed to the state governments and counties for infrastructure and assistance to communities in need. The efforts of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors have awarded the Centennial Park Domestic Water Improvement District 2.5 Million dollars to discover and acquire water resources in our area. The District has been investigating deeper aquifers to find more water quantity and better quality. Below we have updates on the progress of these funds and the ARPA well.

ARPA Update: August 15, 2024

We are excited to inform you of the progress of the new well!

For the past year, the District has been working to bring the current exploration well online for production. During the process, we collected valuable information but encountered many complications. After exhausting all our options to make the current hole operational, the District and the ARPA team worked to get confirmation from Mohave County for approval on drilling a new hole. Fortunately, Mohave County granted us permission for us to continue with the project we presented.

The District is moving full steam ahead to drill the new hole as fast as possible, starting as early as next week. However, we foresee some hurdles in securing funding for the above-ground construction of the new well. Travis Lingenfelter, a Mohave County Board of Supervisors member, has been helping us secure additional funding opportunities.

We are working diligently to bring more water and are excited to see a new well's positive impact on our community. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

ARPA Update: November 27th, 2023

The District has been investigating deeper aquifers to find more water quantity and better quality. This October, the District drilled 2,300 ft to find and test water from that lower region. Even though the water was found, The quality was very salty. Our hydrologist commented that it was too salty even for farming purposes. The cost needed to pump that water to the system and then have to treat the water was not feasible.

On the way down, the District did uncover a higher-producing aquifer that we are now in the process of returning to. This water has the same kind of common contaminants in this region, but the aquifer has the quantity that will significantly relieve our District.  The District is proceeding as quickly as possible, and we hope to have this water available sometime next year.

It has been a great struggle to deal with the harsh conditions of drought that this and many areas are experiencing. The District appreciates all those actively participating in the ARPA Well project and the water conservancy requirements. With the addition of these water resources, we are excited to make them available to our community.

We want to say a huge thank you to Travis Lingenfelter and all of the Mohave County staff working to help make this project a reality. This project shows that they are willing to lend a hand in helping small communities in need.
